Some of you may have heard about “cloud computing”. One of the companies that has now emerged as leaders in this field is IBM. IBM, in 2004, started a distributed computing project to benefit humanity by supporting humanitarian causes. This was as part of their corporate social responsibility endeavors and this project is known as World Community Grid (WCG).
Some of the projects that World Community Grid works on is to find cure for cancer, muscular dystrophy, dengue, malaria, schistoma, to research into clean energy production, and producing clean water etc. All the results are released into the public domain.
PSGIM stakeholders like students, faculty and alumni has been promoting this project. Thanks to all their initiatives and support, PSGIM has recently been recognized as a partner of World Community Grid. Visit the link http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewOurPartners.do to see who the partners of WCG are – some of the leading corporations, non-profits and universities of the world.
PSGIM is the first academic institution from South Asia to partner with World Community Grid.
You too can join the project by sharing the unused and idle processing power of your computer. Visit http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org to know more about the project.
